Level 2 Food Safety & Hygiene Online Course Content
The Level 2 Food Hygiene & Food Safety course focuses on the importance of safety in environments that handle food. Mismanagement of Food Hazards and Contamination can lead to food poisoning outbreaks and poor hygiene conditions, which can result in prosecution, low Food Hygiene Rating Scheme scores, business closure, poor reputation and loss of trade, and poor staff retention.
The course covers three groups of bacteria: Beneficial Bacteria, Bacterial Pathogens, and Spoilage Bacteria. Beneficial Bacteria help with normal digestion and may be added to foods to provide health benefits. Bacterial Pathogens cause harm through production of toxins into the food or by being toxic themselves. Pathogen carriers can pass on infections to others without showing symptoms, so reducing the risk of being a carrier is essential. Spoilage Bacteria are not pathogenic but result in the food becoming spoiled and unfit for consumption.
The course also includes a Jargon Buster section that explains terms such as Pathogenic bacteria, Carrier, Food Poisoning Symptoms, and Spoilage Bacteria.
According to the Food Standards Agency (FSA), there are about 2.4m cases of food poisoning in the UK every year, and vulnerable persons are at greater risk of serious consequences. Vulnerable persons include babies and pre-school children, pregnant women, the elderly, people who are already unwell with compromised immunity, and those who have allergic reactions to food.
Overall, the Level 2 Food Hygiene & Food Safety course is essential for anyone working in an environment that handles food to ensure they have a good understanding of the risks associated with food hazards and contamination, as well as the steps needed to prevent them.
